About Friedrich air conditioner error codes
Friedrich is an American air conditioning company based in Texas, known for room, through-the-wall and portable air conditioners. Its codes appear on the unit's control panel and differ between product lines.
How to read Friedrich air conditioner codes
Friedrich reuses the same few codes across very different product lines, so E1 on a Uni-Fit wall unit and E1 on a 2008 QuietMaster window unit are two separate problems. Find the model number on the label inside the front grille or on the side of the cabinet before you read anything into a code.
On the 2008-2009 room units, E1 to E6 are kept in a fault log that a technician reads through the control's test mode, so you usually won't see them during normal use. Uni-Fit units and ZoneAire portables show their codes straight on the display.
To restart any of these units, unplug it (or switch off its breaker if it's hard-wired) for a few minutes. If the code comes straight back, leave it off and call Friedrich service with the model number and the code.
Of the 5 codes on this page, 1 usually have a simple fix you can do yourself, and 2 usually need a technician. Each guide says which is which, so you don't pay for a service call you don't need, and you don't attempt a repair that isn't safe.
Before you start
- Write down your model number. It's on a sticker, usually inside the door or lid, on the frame, or on the back or side panel. Parts and some code meanings depend on it.
- Try a reset. Unplug the air conditioner or switch off its breaker for 10 minutes. This clears many one-off glitches without tools.
- Clean or replace the air filter first. A dirty filter causes many airflow and freezing codes.
- Never open refrigerant lines or electrical panels. Those are jobs for a licensed HVAC technician.
