Washer Washer-dryer drying system: What It Does and Signs It's Failing

All-in-one washer-dryers have a separate drying section with a fan motor, a heater and a drying temperature sensor. The fan pushes air across the heater and into the drum. It only runs during the dry part of a cycle.

How it works

The control runs the fan and heater together and watches the drying sensor to hold the temperature. If the fan motor doesn't respond, LG's control treats it as a safety fault and stops the dry cycle. A failed sensor or heater stops drying with a code even though washing still works.

Signs it is failing

Drying fan, drying heater and drying sensor codes only show up on washer-dryer combos. A one-off code after a power flicker often clears with a reset.

Can you replace it yourself?

Unplug the washer for about five minutes, then run a dry-only cycle to see if the code comes back. The fan and heater run hot and carry line voltage, and LG says not to take these parts apart yourself. If the code returns, book service; LG recommends not using the washer until it's been inspected.

Always unplug the washer or switch off its breaker before opening any panel, and turn off water or gas where relevant.

Buying the right part

Drying parts are made for one model family, so the technician will order by full model and serial number.
