Samsung Air Conditioner dF Error Code
Defrosting the outdoor unit on Samsung air conditioners.
SamsungAll Samsung air conditioner codes
dF means the unit is defrosting the outdoor coil during Heat mode. That's normal. The indoor fan pauses so you don't get a blast of cold air, and steam rising off the outdoor unit is expected.
Compatible models
Samsung heat pump (heating-capable) wall units. Cooling-only models never defrost, and Samsung gives no model list.
Also shown as
Only appears in Heat mode, mostly when it's cold and damp outside. Samsung says a defrost usually lasts about 5 to 12 minutes.
Difficulty
Most people can clear this one at home with simple checks.

How to fix Samsung dF
Wait for the cycle to finish
Leave the unit running. Heat comes back by itself once defrost ends.
Keep the outdoor unit clear
After the cycle, if snow or ice is piling up around the base or sides of the outdoor unit, switch off the breaker first. Brush snow away by hand or with a soft broom so meltwater can drain, and let ice melt rather than chipping at it.
When to call a technician
If dF comes up very often or the outdoor unit stays encased in ice, have a technician check the defrost controls and refrigerant system.
