Samsung Air Conditioner E101 Error Code
Indoor and outdoor units aren't communicating. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The indoor unit has not had a signal from the outdoor unit for about two minutes. Samsung's installer guide says to check the wiring between the two units first, including whether the power and communication wires were swapped at installation.
Samsung uses an E or a C as the first letter depending on model year, so E101 and C101 are the same fault. Wall-mount units with a small two-digit display may show the code in two parts, such as C1 (or E1) followed by 01. C102/E102 is a related communication fault reported by the outdoor unit. Meanings here come from Samsung service and installation manuals for specific model families; codes vary by series and region, so check your owner's or service manual.
How to fix Samsung E101
Check both breakers
Make sure the breakers for the indoor and outdoor units are on. A tripped outdoor breaker will stop communication.
Reset the power at the breaker
Switch off the breaker that feeds the air conditioner (some systems have separate breakers for the indoor and outdoor units, so switch off both). Wait about five minutes, switch the power back on and restart the unit to see if the code clears.
When to call a technician
If the code returns, a technician needs to check the interconnecting wiring and the boards in both units. On a newly installed system, call the installer first. Don't open the outdoor unit's electrical cover yourself.

Frequently asked questions
What does E101 mean on a Samsung air conditioner?
The indoor unit has not had a signal from the outdoor unit for about two minutes. Samsung's installer guide says to check the wiring between the two units first, including whether the power and communication wires were swapped at installation.
Can I fix Samsung E101 myself?
Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but E101 usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.
What if E101 keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when E101 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
