How it works
A membrane or touch-sensitive panel sends signals to a small board behind it, which talks to the main board over a ribbon or wire harness.
Signs it is failing
- Some buttons respond and others don't
- A blank or partly lit display
- Buttons that beep but nothing starts
- Settings that change by themselves
Communication codes between the display and main board can involve this board, its harness or the main board.
Can you replace it yourself?
Check for a child lock, Sabbath or demo mode first, because they lock the buttons on purpose. Getting to the panel means switching off the breaker and taking the door apart, and some brands only sell the keypad and control panel as one piece.
Buying the right part
Match the model number and panel color exactly. Most panels are only sold as OEM parts.
