Frigidaire Dryer E8C Error Code

High-limit thermostat tripped too often on Frigidaire dryers.

E8C
Moderate DIY

The high-limit thermostat, a safety part that cuts the heat when it gets too hot, has tripped too many times in a short period. Restricted airflow is the main suspect. AppliancePartsPros lists a clogged lint filter, a blocked exhaust, leaky duct joints, damaged blower blades, worn drum seals and a closet install without enough air as causes. Sears PartsDirect adds a stuck heater relay on the board.

Compatible models

Both Sears PartsDirect (Frigidaire dryers) and AppliancePartsPros (Affinity dryers) list E8C.

Difficulty

Start with the safe checks below; a worn part may need replacing.

Safety first: unplug the dryer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Frigidaire E8C

  1. Clear the lint and the exhaust

Clean the lint filter, then unplug the dryer and vacuum the filter slot. Disconnect the duct and brush or vacuum it out, and make sure the outside flap swings freely.

  2. Seal the duct joints

Look for joints that have pulled apart or leak lint. Reconnect them and wrap with foil tape (not screws, which snag lint).

  3. Give a closet install some air

If the dryer lives in a closet, check the door has the louvers or openings the installation instructions call for, and that the door isn't sealing the dryer in.

When to call a technician

If airflow checks out and the code returns, or the dryer seems to heat nonstop, a technician should look at the blower, drum seals and control board relay. Never bypass a high-limit thermostat or thermal fuse.
