Dryer Main control board: What It Does and Signs It's Failing

The main control board runs the dryer. It reads the thermistors, moisture sensor and door switch, and switches the motor and heater. On many electronic dryers, the heater relays that switch power to the element sit on this board.

How it works

The board runs the cycle you picked and keeps checking its inputs. If a reading is out of range or a part doesn't respond, it shuts down and shows a code. A failed heater relay can leave the dryer with no heat, and a stuck motor relay can keep the drum turning after the cycle ends.

Signs it is failing

Main board and heater relay codes point here, but power interruptions, loose harness plugs and bad sensors set similar codes. Rule those out first.

Can you replace it yourself?

Turn the dryer's breakers off for a minute to reset the control. Diagnosing a board means testing live circuits, so leave it to a technician. Don't open the board's cover.

Always unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker before opening any panel, and turn off water or gas where relevant.

Buying the right part

Boards are expensive, so make sure the diagnosis is solid and the part number matches your model tag exactly. Read the return terms before ordering.
