Whirlpool Dryer F7E1 Error Code
Drive motor system fault. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The control has detected a problem with the motor that turns the drum. Whirlpool says the cause may be the motor, the control, or the wiring between them. An overloaded drum or something jammed against the drum can also strain the motor.
Older Cabrio and Maytag Bravos dryers show F-26 for a drive motor failure.
How to fix Whirlpool F7E1
Lighten the load
Unplug the dryer, then remove some clothes if the drum is packed tightly. Check that nothing, such as a sock or a hanger, is caught between the drum and the door opening.
Reset the dryer
Switch off the breaker(s) for 1 minute, restore power, start a Timed Dry cycle, and watch for about 1 minute to see if the code returns.
When to call a technician
If F7E1 returns, or you hear grinding or smell burning, stop using the dryer and book a technician to test the motor and its wiring.

Frequently asked questions
What does F7E1 mean on a Whirlpool dryer?
The control has detected a problem with the motor that turns the drum. Whirlpool says the cause may be the motor, the control, or the wiring between them. An overloaded drum or something jammed against the drum can also strain the motor.
Can I fix Whirlpool F7E1 myself?
Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but F7E1 usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.
What if F7E1 keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when F7E1 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
