Samsung Dryer tS Error Code

Temperature sensor fault. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

tS
Moderate DIY

The dryer's temperature sensor (thermistor) is giving a reading the control cannot use. Parts guides say tS points to a shorted sensor and tO to an open one, but Samsung says lint is the usual culprit: a clogged lint screen or vent holds heat inside the dryer. A failed sensor, damaged wiring or the control board are the other possibilities.

Samsung groups tS, t5, tC, tO, t0, tE, tE3, tC5, tCS, 1 tC, 1tC5 and 1tCS together as temperature errors. A character that looks like an upside-down F is really a t.

Safety first: unplug the dryer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Samsung tS

  1. Clean the lint screen and vent

Clean the lint screen. Unplug the dryer, disconnect the exhaust hose and clear any lint from it and from the outlet on the back of the dryer. Make sure the outside vent flap opens freely.

  2. Restart

With the vent clear, plug the dryer back in and run a cycle to see whether the code returns.

When to call a technician

If the code returns with a clean lint screen and vent, book a repair so a technician can test the thermistor and its wiring.

Frequently asked questions

What does tS mean on a Samsung dryer?

The dryer's temperature sensor (thermistor) is giving a reading the control cannot use. Parts guides say tS points to a shorted sensor and tO to an open one, but Samsung says lint is the usual culprit: a clogged lint screen or vent holds heat inside the dryer. Can I fix Samsung tS myself?

Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear tS, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.

What if tS keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when tS appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
