Frigidaire Refrigerator OP / SH Error Code
Temperature sensor open or shorted. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
OP or SH in the freezer or refrigerator temperature display means the control is getting a bad reading from that compartment's temperature sensor (thermistor). OP points to an open circuit, such as a failed sensor or broken wire. SH points to a short circuit. The compartment may then run too warm or too cold.
The code shows in whichever temperature display belongs to the faulty sensor, freezer or refrigerator. Frigidaire lists these as service codes on French-door models. Four-door models use a different set of service codes (Er T1 to Er T6) whose individual meanings Frigidaire doesn't publish, so check your manual.
How to fix Frigidaire OP / SH
Reset the refrigerator
Unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in, or flip its breaker if you can't reach the plug. Note which display showed the code.
Monitor temperatures
Put a thermometer in each compartment and check it after a few hours. Keep the doors closed and move perishables to a cooler if the refrigerator rises above 40°F (4°C).
When to call a technician
If the code returns, a technician needs to test the sensor and its wiring at the control board. These checks involve electrical measurements behind interior panels.

Frequently asked questions
What does OP / SH mean on a Frigidaire refrigerator?
OP or SH in the freezer or refrigerator temperature display means the control is getting a bad reading from that compartment's temperature sensor (thermistor). OP points to an open circuit, such as a failed sensor or broken wire. SH points to a short circuit. The compartment may then run too warm or too cold.
Can I fix Frigidaire OP / SH myself?
Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but OP / SH usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.
What if OP / SH keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when OP / SH appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
