Easy DIY fix

The dishwasher isn't getting enough water in. A closed supply valve, a clogged filter in the inlet hose fitting, a kinked inlet hose or low water pressure are the causes Miele lists for all three codes.

Miele gives F12, F13 and F15 the same causes and fixes. The minimum flow pressure for these codes is 7 psi (50 kPa, 0.5 bar).

Most people can clear this one at home with simple checks.

Safety first: unplug the dishwasher (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Miele F12 / F13 / F15

  1. Open the supply valve

Check that the valve feeding the dishwasher (under the sink in most US kitchens, often a stopcock in UK installs) is fully open.

  2. Clean the inlet filter

Switch off and unplug the dishwasher, then close the supply valve. Unscrew the hose from the valve, remove the seal and pull out the small plastic filter with needle-nose pliers. Rinse it, put filter and seal back, reconnect and open the valve slowly. The plastic housing on the hose holds an electric valve, so never dip it in water.

  3. Straighten the inlet hose

Remove any kinks or tight loops. Check the hose again over the next few days, since a kinked spot can weaken and split. If it's damaged, contact Miele for a replacement.

  4. Rule out low pressure

If other taps in the house are weak too, pressure may be under the 7 psi (50 kPa) minimum. That's one for a plumber or your building manager.

When to call a technician

If the water's on, the filter is clean and the code still shows, contact Miele Service.
