The H2O light is the filter reminder. KitchenAid suggests a new filter about every 6 months, sooner with heavy use or poor water quality. A clogged or badly seated filter also slows the dispenser and cuts ice production.
Compatible models
KitchenAid lists the H2O light under its French door bottom freezer refrigerators with a dispenser; it doesn't name models.
Also shown as
Button pairs for the filter reset differ between KitchenAid models. Light plus Ice Type is the combination on the H2O light page; some manuals use Control Lock plus Measured Fill instead.
Difficulty
Most people can clear this one at home with simple checks.

How to fix KitchenAid H2O
Fit a new filter
Buy the filter listed for your exact model number (KitchenAid recommends its everydrop filters). Turn or push it fully into the housing until it locks.
Reset the reminder
Hold Light and Ice Type together for 3 seconds. The status light goes out once the reset takes.
Flush the new filter
Hold a large container under the dispenser and press the paddle in bursts of about 5 seconds on, 5 seconds off. KitchenAid's French-door manual calls for 3 to 4 gallons (11 to 15 L) to clear air and loose carbon. Sputtering at first is normal.
When to call a technician
If water flow or ice production is still poor with a new, properly seated filter, contact KitchenAid service to check the water valve and supply.
