How it works
A magnetic strip inside the vinyl pulls the gasket tight against the steel cabinet face. The folds in the gasket squash to fill small gaps.
Signs it is failing
- Frost or ice near the edge of a door or around fans
- Sweat or condensation on the door edge
- Gaps, tears, flattened or twisted sections
- A door that doesn't pull itself shut the last inch
- Fan codes caused by frost
A poor seal is behind many frost-related fan and defrost codes and constant door alarms. Fixing it can stop the code from returning.
Can you replace it yourself?
Clean it with warm soapy water and check for gaps by shutting the door on a dollar bill. A hair dryer on low can relax a kinked gasket. Most gaskets press into a channel or are held by screws under the lip, so a homeowner can swap them.
Buying the right part
Gaskets are sized per door and drawer. Buy the OEM gasket for that exact door by model number.
