GE Refrigerator FF Error Code
Frozen food may be thawing. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The freezer has been warmer than normal for a while, roughly 2 hours or more, and frozen food may be starting to thaw. A door left open, a worn door gasket, or a power interruption are the usual causes. If PF shows up alongside it, a power failure is the likely trigger.
Appears on GE models with an electronic dispenser display. After a power outage it often shows up together with PF.
How to fix GE FF
Close the doors and check the seals
Make sure both doors close completely and nothing is propping them open. Look at the door gaskets for tears or gaps and clean them with warm soapy water.
Let the freezer recover
Keep the doors closed for several hours so the freezer can get back to about 0°F (-18°C). Avoid adding warm food during that time.
Check your frozen food
Food that still has ice crystals, or that stayed at 40°F (4°C) or colder, can be refrozen. Throw out frozen food that sat above 40°F (4°C) for more than 2 hours.
Clear the code
Press the System Check button if your model has one, or unplug the refrigerator for a minute or two and plug it back in.
When to call a technician
If FF comes back with the doors closed and power steady, the freezer isn't cooling properly; schedule a technician to find out why.

Frequently asked questions
What does FF mean on a GE refrigerator?
The freezer has been warmer than normal for a while, roughly 2 hours or more, and frozen food may be starting to thaw. A door left open, a worn door gasket, or a power interruption are the usual causes. If PF shows up alongside it, a power failure is the likely trigger.
Can I fix GE FF myself?
Usually, yes. Most FF problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: close the doors and check the seals.
What if FF keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when FF appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
