GE Refrigerator tC / tF Error Code

TurboCool or TurboFreeze is running (not an error). Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

tC / tF
Easy DIY fix

These are normal function indicators, not faults. tC shows that TurboCool is speeding up refrigerator cooling, and tF shows that TurboFreeze is speeding up freezing. On some displays they can look like "EC" or "EF".

Only shown on models that have TurboCool or TurboFreeze.

Safety first: unplug the refrigerator (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix GE tC / tF

  1. Let the feature finish

On most models these modes end by themselves after several hours; your owner's manual gives the exact time. If you turned one on deliberately, there's nothing to do.

  2. Turn it off if you didn't mean to start it

Press the TurboCool or TurboFreeze button again to cancel it. Check your owner's manual if your controls are labeled differently.

When to call a technician

No service is needed for these indicators. If a code you see isn't on GE's list, contact a technician.

What if tC / tF keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when tC / tF appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
