Hotpoint (UK) Washer F01 Error Code

Electronic circuit board fault. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

F01
May need a pro

The main electronics have detected a fault, so the machine may not run or some buttons and functions may not respond. A power reset sometimes clears a temporary glitch.

Applies to UK/European Hotpoint machines only, not GE-made Hotpoint washers sold in the US. Indesit's UK service site lists the same code with the same meaning.

Safety first: unplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Hotpoint (UK) F01

  1. Do a full power reset

Switch the machine off and unplug it. If there is water near the outlet or cord, switch off the circuit breaker instead of touching the plug. Hotpoint advises leaving it unplugged for at least 2 minutes, then plugging it back in, waiting about 30 seconds and starting a program again.

  2. Note the details for the technician

Write down the code, the program you were running and the model and serial numbers from the label inside the door. This helps the technician bring the right parts.

When to call a technician

If F01 returns after a full reset, book a technician. Control boards should only be checked or replaced by a technician.

Frequently asked questions

What does F01 mean on a Hotpoint (UK) washer?

The main electronics have detected a fault, so the machine may not run or some buttons and functions may not respond. A power reset sometimes clears a temporary glitch.

Can I fix Hotpoint (UK) F01 myself?

Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but F01 usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.

What if F01 keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when F01 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
