Hotpoint (UK) Washer F11 Error Code

Drain pump circuit fault. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

F11
May need a pro

The electrical side of the drain pump has a fault, so the machine cannot empty itself and water is left inside. Unlike F05, this does not point to a blockage.

Applies to UK/European Hotpoint machines only, not GE-made Hotpoint washers sold in the US. Indesit's UK service site lists the same code with the same meaning.

Safety first: unplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Hotpoint (UK) F11

  1. Make it safe

Switch the machine off and unplug it. If there is water near the outlet or cord, switch off the circuit breaker instead of touching the plug. Turn off the water supply tap. If you need to get clothes out, drain the water through the pump filter as your handbook describes, using towels and a shallow tray, and let hot water cool first.

  2. Note the details for the technician

Write down the code, the program you were running and the model and serial numbers from the label inside the door. This helps the technician bring the right parts.

When to call a technician

Book a technician to test the pump and its wiring.

Frequently asked questions

What does F11 mean on a Hotpoint (UK) washer?

The electrical side of the drain pump has a fault, so the machine cannot empty itself and water is left inside. Unlike F05, this does not point to a blockage.

Can I fix Hotpoint (UK) F11 myself?

Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but F11 usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.

What if F11 keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when F11 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
