Defrosting (normal in heat mode) on Gree air conditioners.
GreeAll Gree air conditioner codes
Not a fault. In heating, ice builds up on the outdoor coil, and the system reverses for a few minutes to melt it. GREE says H1 is a status code for defrost or oil return in heating mode.
Compatible models
Any GREE heat pump in heating mode. GREE lists it as a status code rather than tying it to models.

How to fix Gree H1
Give it several minutes
The indoor fan may stop and you may see steam rising from the outdoor unit. That's normal. Heating resumes when the coil is clear.
Make sure meltwater can drain
Keep the area under the outdoor unit clear of snow and ice so defrost water can run away instead of refreezing.
When to call a technician
If H1 lasts far longer than usual or the outdoor coil stays caked in ice, GREE suggests a sensor or heat exchanger issue. Have a technician look at it.
