Dishwasher Wiring harness: What It Does and Signs It's Failing
The bundle of wires and plug-in connectors that links the control board to every motor, valve, heater and sensor. On models with the controls in the door, part of the harness runs through the hinge area.

How it works
Each connector clicks onto a part so the board can send it power or read its signal. On door-control models, opening the door flexes part of the harness every time you load the machine.
Signs it is failing
- Codes that come and go, especially when the door moves
- Several unrelated parts failing at once
- A melted or discolored connector
- Chewed wires (mice like the warm base of a dishwasher)
Many sensor and communication codes list the harness alongside the part; GE names the harness first for its pressure sensor code. A loose connector after a recent repair or install is a common cause.
Can you replace it yourself?
Wiring inside the machine carries line voltage, so harness checks and repairs are for a tech. Don't splice or jump wires to get the machine running.
Buying the right part
Harnesses are model-specific. A tech can often replace one section instead of the whole loom.
