Whirlpool Dishwasher F3E2 Error Code
Temperature or soil sensor fault. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The control is reading a fault from the thermistor (water temperature sensor) or the OWI (optical water indicator), which judges how dirty the water is. On many models these share one sensor part. A shorted sensor or damaged wiring is the usual cause.
On models without a digital display, the Clean light shows this as 3 quick flashes, a short pause, then 2 flashes, repeating after a longer pause. F3E1 is a closely related sensor failure code.
How to fix Whirlpool F3E2
Reset the control
Unplug the dishwasher for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. If it is hard-wired, switch off its breaker at the electrical panel for 30 seconds instead, then switch it back on and try a cycle.
Note the code and model number
Write down the exact code, when in the cycle it appeared, and the model and serial numbers from the rating label (usually on the side or top edge of the door or tub). With nothing safe left to check yourself, this lets the technician bring the right part on the first visit.
When to call a technician
If F3E2 returns after a reset, schedule service; the sensor or its harness needs testing and likely replacement.

Frequently asked questions
What does F3E2 mean on a Whirlpool dishwasher?
The control is reading a fault from the thermistor (water temperature sensor) or the OWI (optical water indicator), which judges how dirty the water is. On many models these share one sensor part. A shorted sensor or damaged wiring is the usual cause.
Can I fix Whirlpool F3E2 myself?
Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but F3E2 usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.
What if F3E2 keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when F3E2 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
