Whirlpool Dishwasher F6E3 Error Code

Too many suds. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

F6E3
Easy DIY fix

The dishwasher has detected foam that keeps it from filling or washing correctly. It is usually caused by hand dish soap, laundry detergent, too much dishwasher detergent, or a rinse aid cap left off.

On models without a digital display, the Clean light shows this as 6 quick flashes, a short pause, then 3 flashes, repeating after a longer pause.

Safety first: unplug the dishwasher (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Whirlpool F6E3

  1. Remove the suds

Switch the dishwasher off and unplug it or turn off its breaker. Unload the dishes, then use a plastic cup to bail out as much foam as you can.

  2. Calm the rest with oil

Pour 2 to 3 tablespoons (30 to 45 ml) of ordinary vegetable cooking oil onto the tub floor. The oil helps collapse the foam that is left.

  3. Run two empty cycles

Restore power and run one complete empty cycle without any detergent. Follow it with a second empty cycle, this time with dishwasher detergent in the dispenser, to rinse away the oil and confirm the suds are gone.

  4. Prevent a repeat

Use only automatic dishwasher detergent, measure it carefully, and make sure the rinse aid cap is closed firmly.

When to call a technician

If F6E3 returns when you are using the right detergent and there are no suds, schedule service.
