LG Refrigerator Er dH Error Code

Defrost cycle failed. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

Er dH
Moderate DIY

The automatic defrost ran for longer than expected without the evaporator warming up, so the coils may be iced over. LG lists a blocked defrost drain hole as one possible cause, and it is the only one a homeowner can deal with. A failed defrost heater, temperature fuse or main board can also cause it.

Also shown as F dH (freezer), r dH (refrigerator), FdH or dHF. Related codes d1, d2, H1 and H2 on some models use the same defrost steps.

Safety first: unplug the refrigerator (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix LG Er dH

  1. Reset the power

Unplug the refrigerator for about 2 minutes, then plug it back in so it can try a fresh defrost cycle.

  2. Defrost manually

Move food out, lay dry towels in front of the doors, unplug the fridge and leave the affected door wide open. LG says the ice usually melts in about a day in summer and up to three days in winter. Let it melt naturally, with no heat guns, hair dryers or sharp tools.

  3. Check that meltwater drains

As the ice melts, water should run down into the drain pan under the fridge. If water pools inside instead, the drain hole may be blocked, which is a likely reason for the code.

When to call a technician

If the code returns after a manual defrost, request service. The defrost heater, fuse and board need testing with the right tools.
