LG Refrigerator OFF Error Code
Fridge is in demo (display) mode. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
O F F on the control panel means the refrigerator is in demo or display mode, the showroom setting that turns off cooling in both the fridge and freezer while keeping lights and controls working. It is not a fault, but food will spoil if the fridge stays in this mode.
Shown as OFF, O F F or OF F. The button sequence depends on the model and its age: LG splits models at serial numbers whose first three digits are below 901 (2018 and earlier) versus 901 and higher (2019 and newer). Some models use FRIDGE and Express FRZ instead of REFRIGERATOR and ICE PLUS, so check your manual.
How to fix LG OFF
Open a refrigerator door
The demo mode buttons only respond with a fridge door open. On older models LG specifies the right-hand door.
Older models: hold two buttons
On 2018 and earlier models, press and hold REFRIGERATOR and ICE PLUS together for about five seconds. Keep holding through the first beep until you hear a second one. If you never hear the first beep, let go and try again.
Newer models: hold, then press three times
On 2019 and newer models, hold ICE PLUS and REFRIGERATOR through the first and second beep. Then, still holding REFRIGERATOR, press ICE PLUS three times. The panel should beep and show the normal temperatures, and you may hear the dispenser reset.
Let it cool before loading food
Keep food in a cooler while the fridge cools down. Use an appliance thermometer to confirm the fresh food section is at or below 40°F (4°C) and the freezer at or below 0°F (-18°C) before restocking.
When to call a technician
Demo mode is not a fault. If no button combination works, contact LG support with your model and serial number for the right sequence.
