LG Dishwasher FE Error Code

Too much water in the tub. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

FE
Moderate DIY

The dishwasher sensed more water than it should hold and switched the drain pump on by itself. LG points to heavy suds from the wrong detergent, an unlevel unit or misaligned door, a leak, or (on Heat Dry models) water poured into the Heat Dry blower by mistake.

Some LG pages list FE together with AE and EI as a leak/overfill code. On Heat Dry models, never pour water into the Heat Dry blower opening (its cap is a different size and shape from the softener cap); if that has happened on a built-in unit, LG says not to pull the unit out and to request service. Check your owner's manual for your model.

Safety first: unplug the dishwasher (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix LG FE

  1. Let it drain

Allow the pump to finish removing the water. Do not open the door repeatedly while it runs.

  2. Rule out suds

Make sure you are using automatic dishwasher detergent in the right amount, never hand dish soap. Load large plates and pots facing down so they do not catch and spill water, and check that the unit sits level side to side and front to back.

  3. Reset the power

Turn the dishwasher off, then switch off its circuit breaker for about 10 seconds and switch it back on. Power the unit up and start a fresh cycle to see whether the code returns.

When to call a technician

If FE comes back after a reset with the right detergent and a level unit, or the tub keeps filling while the dishwasher is off, request LG service; the fill or water level sensing needs testing. Turn off the water supply under the sink in the meantime.

Frequently asked questions

What does FE mean on a LG dishwasher?

The dishwasher sensed more water than it should hold and switched the drain pump on by itself. LG points to heavy suds from the wrong detergent, an unlevel unit or misaligned door, a leak, or (on Heat Dry models) water poured into the Heat Dry blower by mistake.

Can I fix LG FE myself?

Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear FE, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.

What if FE keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when FE appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
