LG Dishwasher IE Error Code

Not filling with enough water. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

IE
Easy DIY fix

The dishwasher did not reach its normal water level after about 10 minutes of filling. The usual reasons are a closed supply valve, a kinked inlet hose, low water pressure or, in cold spaces, a frozen supply line.

Used on LG US models. Some LG pages call it an inlet error, others a fill error; the meaning is the same.

Safety first: unplug the dishwasher (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix LG IE

  1. Confirm the house has water

Run a kitchen or bathroom faucet. If no water comes out, the problem is the home supply, not the dishwasher.

  2. Open the supply valve and straighten the hose

Find the shut-off valve under the sink and make sure it is fully open (turn counterclockwise). Check the inlet hose behind the toe kick for kinks or crushed sections. This is the most common cause on new or recently moved installs.

  3. Check pressure and drain hose height

LG specifies 20 to 120 psi (1.4 to 8.3 bar) of supply pressure; if your pressure is low, a plumber can check it. Also make sure the drain hose end sits about 10 to 12 in (25 to 30 cm) above the dishwasher base, because a hose set too low can let water siphon out while it fills.

  4. Level the unit and remove flow restrictors

An unlevel dishwasher can trigger this code, so check it side to side and front to back. If the inlet uses a flood-stop hose or check valve, LG recommends a standard inlet hose instead. If a line froze, unplug the unit and warm the frozen section with a towel soaked in warm water.

When to call a technician

If the water supply, hose and level are all fine and IE keeps returning, the inlet valve or water level sensing may be faulty and LG service should check it.

Frequently asked questions

What does IE mean on a LG dishwasher?

The dishwasher did not reach its normal water level after about 10 minutes of filling. The usual reasons are a closed supply valve, a kinked inlet hose, low water pressure or, in cold spaces, a frozen supply line.

Can I fix LG IE myself?

Usually, yes. Most IE problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: confirm the house has water.

What if IE keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when IE appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
