LG Washer LE Error Code
Motor is locked or overloaded. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The tub didn't turn the way the control expected, so the washer stopped to protect the motor. This is usually caused by an overloaded drum or an object such as a coin jammed between the drum and tub.
Listed for front-load, top-load and wash tower models. Some top-load models show LE1 for a similar locked-motor condition.
How to fix LG LE
Let it rest and restart
Unplug the washer and wait at least 5 minutes (LG suggests up to 30 minutes so the motor can cool), then plug it in and restart the cycle.
Lighten the load
Take out part of the laundry so the drum isn't packed. Use the Bedding cycle for comforters and other heavy items.
Look for jammed objects
With the washer unplugged and empty, turn the drum by hand and inspect the drum holes and, on top-loaders, the gap around the wash plate. Remove coins, bra wires or other items with pliers or tweezers.
When to call a technician
If the code returns with a normal, empty-pocket load, stop using the washer and request service; the motor, its wiring harness or the rotor position sensor may be at fault.
Parts that commonly cause LE
- drive motor (stator/rotor)
- motor wiring harness
- rotor position sensor
Order parts by your exact model number so they fit.

Frequently asked questions
What does LE mean on a LG washer?
The tub didn't turn the way the control expected, so the washer stopped to protect the motor. This is usually caused by an overloaded drum or an object such as a coin jammed between the drum and tub.
Can I fix LG LE myself?
Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear LE, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.
What if LE keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when LE appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
