Samsung Washer 3C Error Code

Motor error. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

3C
May need a pro

The control board is not getting the expected signal from the drive motor, so it cannot run the drum properly. Causes include an overloaded or jammed drum, a loose wiring connection, a failed motor speed sensor, or a failed drive motor.

Also shown as 3E, E3, or 1 3C. On some models 3E is a power supply (voltage) error instead, so check your manual. bE or 6E is a separate motor speed sensor code.

Safety first: unplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Samsung 3C

  1. Reduce the load

Cancel the cycle, open the door once it unlocks, and take out part of the load if the drum is packed tight. Then unplug the washer and turn the empty drum slowly by hand; it should move freely without grinding. Remove any item caught between the drum and the tub if you can reach it easily.

  2. Reset the power

Turn the washer off, then unplug it or switch off its circuit breaker for about 2 to 3 minutes. Restore power and start a new cycle. A one-time glitch often clears this way, so note whether the code comes back.

When to call a technician

If the code returns with a normal load after a reset, the motor, its speed sensor, or the wiring needs to be tested by a technician.

Frequently asked questions

What does 3C mean on a Samsung washer?

The control board is not getting the expected signal from the drive motor, so it cannot run the drum properly. Causes include an overloaded or jammed drum, a loose wiring connection, a failed motor speed sensor, or a failed drive motor.

Can I fix Samsung 3C myself?

Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but 3C usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.

What if 3C keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when 3C appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
