Samsung Washer AC Error Code

Communication error between control boards. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

AC
May need a pro

Two of the washer's electronic modules have stopped talking to each other properly. Most often this is the main control board and the display board, but some suffixed codes point to a different module. Causes include a loose or damaged wire harness between the parts or a failed board or module.

Also shown as AE, AEb, ACb, AC7, 1 AC, 1AC6, and other AC or AE numbers depending on the model. On some models the number identifies the module involved: AE4 the Wi-Fi module, AE5 the display module, AE6 or AC6 the motor inverter board, and AE3 the demand-response (DR Ready) modem. Check your manual for your model's exact meaning.

Safety first: unplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Samsung AC

  1. Reset the power

Turn the washer off, then unplug it or switch off its circuit breaker for about 2 to 3 minutes. Restore power and start a new cycle. A one-time glitch often clears this way, so note whether the code comes back.

  2. Rule out power problems

Plug the washer directly into a grounded wall outlet rather than an extension cord or power strip, and make sure it is not sharing a circuit with other large appliances. Then run a short cycle to see if the code returns.

When to call a technician

If the code comes back after a reset, the wiring and control boards need to be checked by a technician. Do not open the control panel yourself, since the boards connect to live voltage.

Frequently asked questions

What does AC mean on a Samsung washer?

Two of the washer's electronic modules have stopped talking to each other properly. Most often this is the main control board and the display board, but some suffixed codes point to a different module. Causes include a loose or damaged wire harness between the parts or a failed board or module.

Can I fix Samsung AC myself?

Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but AC usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.

What if AC keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when AC appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
