About Midea air conditioner error codes

Midea is a Chinese appliance maker that sells air conditioners under its own name and makes units for other brands. Midea codes are usually shown on the indoor unit's display as a letter and number, such as E1 or P1.

How to read Midea air conditioner codes

Midea mini-splits sold in the last few years show four-character codes such as EL 01 or PC 08 on the indoor unit's display. Older units show two characters for the same faults (E1, F5, P0 and so on), and each entry below gives the old code too. Portables and window units use their own short codes, so the same letters can mean something else on those.

A reset on a mini-split means switching off the breaker (and the outdoor disconnect, if there is one) for about 5 minutes. Portables and window units just need unplugging for a few minutes. If the code is back within minutes of a restart, stop there; repeated restarts won't fix a failed part.

Before you call, write down the exact code and the model number from the label on the side of the indoor unit, and whether the code shows at startup or after the unit has run a while.

Of the 22 codes on this page, 2 usually have a simple fix you can do yourself, and 11 usually need a technician. Each guide says which is which, so you don't pay for a service call you don't need, and you don't attempt a repair that isn't safe.
