Bosch Dishwasher E18 Error Code

Water level too low. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

E18
Easy DIY fix

Not enough water reached the dishwasher, or it wasn't moved around properly. This usually comes down to low supply flow, a closed valve, or a kinked inlet hose.

Newer US models show E3200. Coolblue's Bosch and Siemens guide lists E18 with the other water supply codes (E14, E16, E17).

Safety first: unplug the dishwasher (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Bosch E18

  1. Check the valve and inlet hose

Make sure the supply valve under the sink is fully open and the inlet hose isn't kinked or damaged.

  2. Test the water flow

Bosch expects about 2.6 gallons (10 liters) per minute at the supply. Timing how long a nearby faucet takes to fill a bucket of known size gives a rough idea; very weak flow points to a plumbing problem rather than the dishwasher.

  3. Reset the dishwasher at the breaker

Switch off the dishwasher's circuit breaker, wait about 30 seconds, then switch it back on. Run a short cycle with the dishwasher empty and watch whether the same code comes back. A code that clears and stays away was likely a one-time glitch.

When to call a technician

If the flow is low, a plumber should check the supply line and valve. If flow is fine and E18 continues, contact Bosch support.

Frequently asked questions

What does E18 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?

Not enough water reached the dishwasher, or it wasn't moved around properly. This usually comes down to low supply flow, a closed valve, or a kinked inlet hose.

Can I fix Bosch E18 myself?

Usually, yes. Most E18 problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: check the valve and inlet hose.

What if E18 keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when E18 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
