LG Dryer dE Error Code

Door is not closed. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

dE
Easy DIY fix

The dryer thinks the door is open and will not start. Usually clothing is caught in the door or the lint screen is not fully seated and stops the door from closing. A bent door, a worn latch or a failed door switch can also cause it.

May appear as DE, de or d E. LG also lists dE4 with the door codes on some models.

Safety first: unplug the dryer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix LG dE

  1. Clear the door area

Open the door and make sure no clothing is caught in the opening and the lint screen is pushed all the way in. Close the door firmly.

  2. Reset and try again

Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker for about 5 seconds, then restore power. Close the door firmly, choose a cycle and press Start.

  3. Inspect for damage

Look at the door and latch for bending or broken pieces. If a new dryer arrived with a bent door, contact the dealer.

When to call a technician

If the door closes normally and the code still returns, the door switch or its wiring needs to be tested and replaced by a technician. Do not tape or bypass the door switch.

Frequently asked questions

What does dE mean on a LG dryer?

The dryer thinks the door is open and will not start. Usually clothing is caught in the door or the lint screen is not fully seated and stops the door from closing. A bent door, a worn latch or a failed door switch can also cause it.

Can I fix LG dE myself?

Usually, yes. Most dE problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: clear the door area.

What if dE keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when dE appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
