LG Dryer tE2 Error Code

Thermistor fault, often in cold weather. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

tE2
Moderate DIY

A temperature sensor is reading out of range. LG ties this code to cold conditions, and says it can show up during steam cycles such as SteamFresh or Steam Sanitary when the dryer is in a cold space. A frozen or blocked outside vent can also cause it.

On steam models it may appear during SteamFresh, Steam Sanitary or other steam-option cycles. If it keeps appearing in warm conditions, treat it like tE1 (a sensor or wiring fault). Parts guides describe tE2 as the outlet thermistor on many models.

Safety first: unplug the dryer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix LG tE2

  1. Clear the outside vent

Check that the outside vent is free of snow, ice, lint and debris and that its flaps move freely. Clean the lint screen as well.

  2. Warm the dryer up

Run the empty dryer on another heated cycle for a few minutes to warm the drum, then try your cycle again. On steam models, LG also suggests running SteamFresh with extra time (the bulky-item setting) to bring it up to temperature.

  3. Reset the controls

Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker, press and hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds, then restore power and run a cycle.

When to call a technician

If tE2 keeps coming back in normal room temperatures with a clear vent, the thermistor or its wiring needs to be checked by a technician.

Frequently asked questions

What does tE2 mean on a LG dryer?

A temperature sensor is reading out of range. LG ties this code to cold conditions, and says it can show up during steam cycles such as SteamFresh or Steam Sanitary when the dryer is in a cold space. A frozen or blocked outside vent can also cause it.

Can I fix LG tE2 myself?

Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear tE2, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.

What if tE2 keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when tE2 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
