LG Dryer HS Error Code

Moisture (humidity) sensor problem. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

HS
Easy DIY fix

The dryer cannot get a good reading from the moisture sensor bars inside the drum, so it does not know when clothes are dry. You may notice cycles running very long, around 2.5 hours, or clothes coming out damp. Residue from dryer sheets and fabric softener on the sensor bars is the most common cause.

Safety first: unplug the dryer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix LG HS

  1. Clean the sensor bars

Unplug the dryer. Find the two metal strips inside the drum, just below the lint screen opening. Wipe them with a damp cloth or paper towel (a little rubbing alcohol helps with waxy buildup) and let them dry fully.

  2. Check the load

Very small loads, bunched-up items or a few heavy things may not touch the sensors properly. Dry a normal-size load and make sure the dryer sits level.

When to call a technician

If HS keeps showing after the sensors are clean, the sensor bars or their wiring may need replacing by a technician.

Frequently asked questions

What does HS mean on a LG dryer?

The dryer cannot get a good reading from the moisture sensor bars inside the drum, so it does not know when clothes are dry. You may notice cycles running very long, around 2.5 hours, or clothes coming out damp. Residue from dryer sheets and fabric softener on the sensor bars is the most common cause.

Can I fix LG HS myself?

Usually, yes. Most HS problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: clean the sensor bars.

What if HS keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when HS appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
