Maytag Dryer L2 / F4 E4 Error Code
Low or missing line voltage on an electric dryer on Maytag dryers.
The control sees low or no voltage on the second leg of the 240-volt supply, so the heater may not come on even though the drum turns. Maytag says L2 shows up at initial installation. A tripped half of a double breaker, a blown fuse or a cord hooked up wrong are the usual culprits.
Compatible models
L2 appears on Maytag electric dryers at first installation, per Maytag; Sears PartsDirect lists F4 E4 for Maytag Centennial dryers.
Also shown as
L2 is on Maytag's own list; Sears PartsDirect shows F4 E4 on Centennial dryers as a voltage supply error, meaning the L2 leg of 240 volts is missing. Gas dryers run on 120 volts, so this applies to electric models.

How to fix Maytag L2 / F4 E4
Reset both breakers or replace fuses
Switch the dryer's double breaker fully off and back on, even if it looks fine; one side can trip without the handle moving much. In a fuse box, replace any blown fuse with the same rating.
Check the cord hookup on a new install
If the dryer was just installed, compare the cord connection with the Installation Instructions. Unplug the dryer before removing the terminal block cover on the back. Burned or melted wiring there means stop and get it repaired.
Restart on a heated cycle
Pick a heated Timed Dry cycle and start the dryer. Touch any pad to clear the code. Within a few minutes you should feel warm air at the outside vent.
When to call a technician
Maytag says to call a qualified electrician if the code persists. The outlet should deliver 240 volts on its own circuit, and that has to be tested by someone qualified.
