Maytag Washer F0E5 Error Code
Load is off balance or too large on Maytag washers.
The load is uneven or too big, and the washer couldn't fix it by itself. Clothes bunched to one side, a heavy item washed alone, overloading or a washer that isn't level are the usual triggers. You may hear banging during spin.
Compatible models
A Maytag top-load code. Sears PartsDirect lists F0 E5 as an unbalanced load on Bravos and Centennial VMW top-loaders.
Also shown as
Top-loaders may also show OFb (sometimes written Ofb). Maytag's uL help page covers the same off-balance problem, and Maytag also has a separate help page for F0 E9; check your manual for how your model labels these codes.
Difficulty
Most people can clear this one at home with simple checks.

How to fix Maytag F0E5
Let the balancing routine finish
With OFb showing, the washer runs its own balance-correction routine, which can stretch the cycle. Let it go; if it fixes the load, the cycle carries on.
Spread the load evenly
If it stops, press Start to pause (or cancel), wait for the lid to unlock, and arrange the clothes in loose piles all the way around the basket. Pair a lone heavy item such as a rug with a few towels, close the lid and press Start. If water is left in the basket after cancelling, run a drain-only or Drain & Spin cycle first.
Avoid overloading
Take some items out if the basket is packed. Comforters, poly-filled jackets and other bulky things go on Bulky/Sheets (with Deep Water Wash if you have it) or Heavy Duty.
Level the washer
With the washer empty and unplugged, press down on each top corner. If it rocks, adjust the leveling feet until all four sit firmly on the floor.
When to call a technician
Small, well-spread loads still triggering F0E5, or heavy banging, mean a technician should check the suspension and drive parts.
