How it works

The wires carry power and sensor signals. Connections can work loose over time, and a loose one can arc and scorch. A partly broken wire gives readings that jump around, which the board flags as a sensor or communication fault.

Signs it is failing

Thermistor, moisture sensor, motor and communication codes often list the harness, since a bad connection reads the same as a dead part.

Can you replace it yourself?

With the dryer unplugged, you can look at the connectors you can see for burns or loose fits. Tracing a break takes electrical testing, so leave that to a technician.

Always unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker before opening any panel, and turn off water or gas where relevant.

Buying the right part

Harness sections that look alike can differ, so let the tech order by full model and serial number.
